Goal: Improve web accessibility of Turnstyle magazine webreader product to meet WCAG level AA.
Recently, I led a six-month effort to retrofit a mature digital magazine reading product to meet WCAG 2.0 web accessibility standards.
I obtained multiple quotes and selected and vendor to provide training to the the engineering team, perform an audit on our current system, and provide a VPAT to validate our compliance after the completion of the project. I collaborated with engineers to define the changes that would be required to the product features. These changes spanned the entire digital production workflow from PDF to responsive html article content, and the navigation interface for readers.
I and a lot of time spent listening to screen readers and through close collaboration with developers, customer support, and QA, we resolved all accessibility issues and we were able to confidently state that our product met level AA WCAG guidelines.
